MICHEL OLIVIER : SOARING HIGH.

There is certainly no lack of imagination ! Could it be the many trips abroad, constantly having to adapt to new situations that have given him this instinctive, natural ability to think of and realize that which others cannot even conceive. The fact remains that his " soarings ", and we are talking of soaring high, always have something to surprise even the most informed amateur. What is the reality ? They are compositions where their evident originality resides in their conception and also one has to add, in the approach of the subjects themselves as well as in their realisation. He always presents them to us as seen from above. The eye glides over his compositions where objects seem to be suspended, held there only by the artist's will.

With this distinguishing feature, Michel Olivier expresses his individuality, and the artist uses it to outline the parameters of his work. This approach, at first disconcerting, enables us to grasp the picture as a whole, as we decide to enter into the painting and find it surprising and novel. And it is precisely there that the interest lies, in this surprising and novel approach to still life, every day scenes and people, in anecdotal situations, looking down from above and on a grand scale. Obviously the artist dominates this subject and style which enables him not to take a step back but to look down on the event or situation which he is describing.
Maman Pouf - 1999

La Fille Pouf - 1999
He makes us accept the most unusual situations by introducing humor and derision and thereby redering them almost ordinary.

This artist has a constant desire to take us back to a simple, raw reality, but without ever being aggressive. He carries this out with his sheer energy, and his well mastered talent, which comes through in every one of his paintings. But one can also admire his still life, flowers, fruit that appear sometimes in amazing pyramid structures, their radiant maturity bordering on the surrealistic in their originality.

He definitely is audacious this artist, he who, with ordinary every day subjects, wanted to surprise us and took a gamble. Well done Mr Artist, you have won your bet. There is no doubt that those who have not yet had the chance to discover your work will greet it favorably. Seduced and conquered by the originality of your pictorial expression, they will, I am sure, want to acquire your paintings.
